really troubling that Standard Notes apparently fails to sync properly when you firewall off github.com, which is a US military contractor from which it downloads executable code. really beginning to wonder if people understand why we bother with end to end encryption.

@sneak so firstly it's pretty normal to bootstrap code from a website these days, even though it is a bit shitty to do, and firewalling the largest code repo website on the planet (GitHub) obviously might cause some issues

Secondly end to end encrypted doesn't magically bypass firewall blocks and make your applications work offline, and I'm pretty sure the download from github is verified cryptographically anyway :)

@xair no, in security software, it is not "pretty normal" to grant full remote code execution to anyone who controls a third party domain. this is only a thing in shitty consumer software that isn't security sensitive. most security software works fine entirely offline.

@xair firewalling *a code website* should not affect my *applications*. they are different things.
