apple has some serious dark patterns around the options to downgrade your monthly payments for icloud storage amounts. shady as fuck, they are.
@surfingalot it's tragic watching post-jobs apple try to turn into a rentseeker instead of just making good products.
@sneak they probably feel like they've peaked on the hardware side and the next growth vector is to take over what google has. There is a reason why we've been hearing 'services services services' from apple for the past 3-5 years.
@surfingalot yes obviously but it is ruining them as a company. they delighted me and a bunch of their other users for *decades*, like a solid 30+ year run, and now they just constantly piss me off with each new release of software or hardware.
it's tragic and sad, like watching a loved one slowly die of dementia.
@sneak yeah it does suck, but the problem is there isn't anyone who's that much better, and too many non-computer technical people just go with the happy path, and to beat them on these products, it's going to be a red ocean knife fight.
@sneak Like maybe i could see some combo of something like oneplus and system 76 maybe do it, but the balance is different now compared to 20 years ago and it makes it harder to compete.
