whoever blew up the nord stream is a genius. perfect strategic move. now even if everyone capitulates this winter because it's fucking cold, russia will not get paid.

@surfingalot @berkes the s is not capitalized, even at the beginning of a sentence.

3090s appear to be going for about $800-900 now and not the $3300 i paid for mine. i did not get $2500 of fun out of mine.

@doenietzomoeilijk @berkes @surfingalot expecting amazon to be amazon does not encompass expecting amazon to commit criminal fraud against you

@berkes @surfingalot i was not complaining about them being customer-hostile. i was complaining about them committing criminal fraud. there is a difference.

@nebogeo did you tell your collaborator that you are appropriating his trademarks for your own project? if someone i worked with did that to me without permission i would be pissed.

@nebogeo pretty sure you can't use the aphex twin trademarked logo to market your free software

@berkes @doenietzomoeilijk and i refuse to handicap myself in the name of activism, that's a way to become slow and useless.

@berkes @doenietzomoeilijk soap was just the example, the reason i'm on there is for the million other items that are available with free shipping and one click. it's the everything store and most of everything will arrive tomorrow. there is absolutely nothing comparable to it here or there and it's not a matter of monopoly, it's a matter of scale/size/reach. (not saying they didn't use anticompetitive practices to get to this point, but they are now here)

@alper tbh that looks like a fucking nightmare

@berkes @doenietzomoeilijk being european, you have no experience with how good home field amazon actually is. they do same day or very early next day delivery on a range of items larger than all of the european amazon stores combined. the ux of amazon.com vs amazon.{everythignelse} is basically incomparable

signal's serverside contact storage sgx handwavey bullshit is, in fact, bullshit, and should be called out more and better.

@doenietzomoeilijk thanks for this helpful reply, it just so happens i love going to the supermarket in person to buy soap during a pandemic, i will change my ways immediately

amazon killed my account the other day because i tried to buy a gift card for my friend while i was traveling abroad. it was legitimate. they refused to reopen the account and suggested i make a new one.

i bought a $500 prepaid amazon gift card for cash and made a new account with a new email.

guess which account also got suspended today.

if america weren't dumb the usa would immediately offer unqualified permanent residence to russians. you want to rob russia of the best and brightest? they'll flock to new york if you open the fucking door.

i wanna be strong but every time i lift weights i can't use my arms for two days afterward. wtaf

@s0 oh i assumed you were doing zfs which doesn't have a write cache (unless you are doing synchronous writes which nobody is unless you are running a database)

@mike i realized after i posted this that ipad/iphone os are not released simultaneously now; 16.x is not out yet for ipad (however it is out for phones). there are apparently some major bugs in the new stage manager multidesktop/multimonitor virtual desktop thing that is dropping in 16.x on ipads

should i put 16 on my main ipad pro or wait for 16.1?

there's no way my main daily driver iphone is getting anything .0

sneak boosted

Anyone who claims that MacOS has anything to do with BSD is lying. Almost all BSD system calls are horribly broken in one way or the other, and it's easier just to ignore them altogether.

But I still enjoy reading gems like this in code.
