i would like a dedicated ebook device, probably e-ink, with backlight, like a kindle paperwhite.

i'd like it to be entirely offline, no wifi or anything like that ideally.

what do you recommend?

@sneak Not sure of any device like that, but perhaps a Kindle & disable wifi after putting whatever you want on it? I love mine, and I do that commonly.

@sneak
I'm not sure such a device exists but I would recommend Kobo Clara HD. I have it. It's cheap but the screen is still good. It has wifi but you can use it 100% offline without turning it on and it has wide format support.

@sneak I personally have had a good experience with this older nook, but it isn’t back-lit. The GlowLight 3 or Plus would likely be pretty solid. WiFi isn’t needed since content can be side-loaded using a (micro?) sd card.

@sneak
I'm very satisfied with Bookeen. Their devices have a wifi adapter but you can disable it, it reads epub and PDF with reflow, and it works like a charm with calibre.

@sneak I would also go for a Kobo. Contrary to a Kindle it supports #epub files and works perfectly well with #Calibre eBook manager.

@sneak I'm pretty happy with PocketBook and I always keep the device offline. Works perfectly with Calibre, system-update images for offline installations are provided, no need for any account, allows installation of 3rd party apps (like KOReader) or dictionaries. Supports pdf, epub, mobi, djvu, FB2, rtf, txt, html and some other formats.
