setting up an android phone for the first time in a long while.

all four of:

- mullvad
- signal
- standard notes
- protonmail

had easily locatable/downloadable APKs, to avoid having to use a google account at all.

pretty amazing!

@Stmuk f-droid signs all of their releases with f-droid keys. the signatures aren't end-to-end; anyone compromising f-droid can backdoor any app.

absolutely no thank you

@sneak If you haven't already, check out Aurora Store app. It's basically a different front for the Play Store that uses dummy accounts to download apps for you.

@sneak Why "Signal" and not "Threma" ? With Signal, I have to give out my phone number in order to use the service.
Just because Signal is free, it should not be prioritised when there are better solutions.

@Th3G4m3r @sneak
Fellow Threema user here. Seems better than Signal. Good that you don't need to enter your number. I've convinced a few mates to use it too.

@sov @Th3G4m3r nobody uses, or will use, threema.

a messenger is useless without users to talk to.

@sneak I’ve found the progressive web app for the ProtonMail beta is better than the mobile app.
