@sneak It's not always easy when you're off in your own instance ... the standard methods of exploring the fediverse don't work well for that...
I benefited from starting with an account on an interesting host, then followed all the people there and started raiding the federated timeline.
Eventually built up a decent idea of where the next host should be for me, to get access to more interesting people who I have something but not everything in common with, and ... never left :-)
I could move to my own instance now, because I don't need to see a busy federated timeline anymore, things are growing organically. But I'm still staying ...
@yojimbo my instance is also banned by m.t for the admin's personal crusade against me, so i can't follow any of those ~20k
@sneak Yes, IIRC our h.t had inherited that ban, but removed it when I asked to follow you directly (I can't remember why I did such a thing! Probably following random bio details from somewhere and I tend to notice fediverse addresses these days. But I also know that very few other people would have thought to even ask ...)
I have no knowledge of the origins/reasons of the m.t ban.
