i've always wondered how languages that rely on tonality (like thai or vietnamese or chinese languages) work in music

i mean if you shoehorn them into a melody you inevitably erase the speech's own pitch

@lis i think the tone is just up/down or down/up or same/same, not so specifically dependent on pitch? tbh i have no idea how this works in practice with music. i will ask.

@sneak@s.sneak.berlin vietnamese has six different ways of changing pitch, cantonese has nine, so no it's not that simple
