Today, armed with a dictionary and a few hours, I was able to read the entire first page of 魔女の宅急便 (Kiki's Delivery Service).

My goal is to read one page every morning and one page every evening. At that rate, I'll finish the book in about four months. But I'm going to presume that I will get faster and better at reading the more I read, so I figure I'll probably finish way sooner than four months, but it's a good worst-case plan.

It's kinda amazing that just a month and a half ago, I couldn't read hiragana or katakana, let alone kanji. And now I can very slowly and with tools read a novel without furigana. Yes, it's a children's novel. But you gotta start somewhere.
