I love how with no quote posts we’ve made our way back to the RT @ era of Twitter, with no one sure of the best way to attribute thoughts to other people. 😂

I’ve generally been anti-quote posts but this proposal for adding quote posts to Mastodon has changed my mind. It thoughtfully puts the user in control of how their post can spread, something I sorely wished Twitter would when they shipped the don’t @ me feature. Twitter leadership believed that quote tweets offered an escape hatch for conversation controls, the ability to hold people in power accountable. @mergesort the mastodon people have strange notions of "abuse". for instance, mastodon hides replies to you from remote people (which are in your local db!) if those remote people block you. that's equivalent to an email sender being able to delete things from your own inbox.
