Does anyone actually budget?

I am very careful to spend less than I earn, but I don't allocate specific amounts for specific things.

@kai i've never been able to do it. the only way i was ever able to build a surplus was to earn more; life in the global west is really expensive.

@sneak I'm drinking a $7 coffee, reading an imported book and I don't even remember how much I spent on it, nevermind that I drove to the cafe—there's amortized spending on transportation, fuel, maintenance, insurance…there is certainly cheaper coffee, cheaper reads, and cheaper transportation available. Suffice to say, the marginal savings never feels worthwhile…
