Not only is it gross but it effectively makes widespread adoption and usage of the fediverse untenable. You can’t access TWKN in public, at work, on transportation, at school—it’s one thing for people to be posting textual obscenities or discussing radical politics, it’s totally different to have graphic depictions of men fucking toddlers on the screen. It essentially forces the hands of instance administrators to adopt liberal use of MRF tools to silence/reject or otherwise censor other instances if they want *their* instance to be accessible and usable by users “out of the box” among civilization. That’s to the detriment of their own users afa accessibility of content and engagement with other uses, and the detriment of users living on outside instances where that garbage gets posted.
The only real solution here *is* just rejecting content from any instance that hosts widespread lolicon bc it’s not viable to introduce new users to the Fedi and explain “oh yeah it’s full of child porn don’t mind any of that, it’s not from us; You’ll have to go through and mute or block each and every individual account posting that content if you don’t want to see/experience it bc we’re so radically against censorship”.
