@stibbons so many hot takes saying this. if you have someone you trust to certify that trees got planted, you have a trusted third party (TTP) already and don't need a cryptocurrency, you can just use a paypal-style database. proof of work solves an actual problem, which is that a TTP can't always be trusted at all times or by all people.
