i think perhaps the jerk admin of mastodon.technology has finally unbanned my instance. i hope this means that he has realized that preventing 17,000+ adults from being able to read what they want to on the internet is rude.
@treztrez instance admins can still declare themselves king of everyone who trusts them not to censor their media. you have to pick a good instance, or run your own.
@sneak What was the reason this administrator banned your instance?
@treztrez he doesn't like that i think that defederation is not a good tool for moderation. i followed like 4-5 people on his instance (of 17k users) and he flipped out and decided i was a stalker or something. (note that when i was on birdsite i followed over 10k users)
@treztrez i think it's insane that an instance admin can unilaterally decide for thousands of instance users that they can't follow/read/see certain content. if you don't like a user you should mute/block them from your own account, you should not silently prevent users on your instance from ever being able to read them. (it also has the side effect of meaning i can't follow anyone on a hugely popular instance)
@sneak thought the whole reason for mastodon is to prevent censorship.
