super lame that the protonmail app on android won't do any sort of interval-based mail checking if you don't have play services installed. it literally depends 100% on proprietary push notifications via google (of all people) to know about new email, it has no other mechanism whatsoever.
just have it auto-refresh once an hour or something, jeez
@surfingalot once per hour is not a battery burden
@sneak usually in mobile dev you don't want to manually do polling background refreshes because you start consuming significantly more battery, and then your app shows up in the settings list as the battery hog and people start whining and deleting.
So you depend on the super battery optimized OS push services to manage the battery with just one open network connection vs multiple random ones.
Is there a cron app in android that lets you launch apps in the background every hour?
