Periodic reminder that the history of science is completely full of 'that weird guy that disagrees with the status quo experts and seems ridiculous' who turns out to actually be closer to the right track than the "experts".
In fact the story of those guys (and they are mostly guys) *is* pretty much a first order approximation of the history of science.
