If you're using Mastodon through Firefox, you can make the directory easier to use by installing the "Mastodon Simplified Federation" plugin:

The plugin (by @rugk) lets you follow remote accounts without having to re-enter your own account address each time.

The TL;DR however is: It's not yet supported by #Firefox for Android. Only some selected add-ons are available for it, though the extension itself is technically likely compatible already: See https://support.mozilla.org/kb/find-and-install-add-ons-firefox-android for more information.
