we are not talking about iCloud Photos. iCloud Photos are already scanned in iCloud by Apple for illegal content as they are not end to end encrypted.
we're talking about LOCAL, ON-DEVICE scanning for people who DO NOT USE ICLOUD.
apple's denial has nothing to do with the topic under discussion.
@kkarhan @lewin@digitalcourage.social @kubikpixel @schurt3r you don't know that it doesn't have any mandate to exist. it's likely that clientside scanning is a prerequisite demanded by the USG before apple ships end to end encrypted cloud software that they can't spy on at will.
@sneak @lewin @kubikpixel @schurt3r I know of no such legislation.
#ITAR et. al. don't reduce restrictions if one includes #Govware #backdoors either...
@kkarhan @lewin@digitalcourage.social @kubikpixel @schurt3r a mandate doesn't have to be public, or even legal. in fact, such an unconstitutional abridgement of apple's 1A rights to free publishing of software would necessarily be very very quiet, a backroom deal.
@kkarhan @lewin@digitalcourage.social @kubikpixel @schurt3r thanks for your opinion
@sneak @lewin @kubikpixel @schurt3r np.
You're welcome...
