This is a list of organizations that are actively trying to destroy free software with politics and popularity contests.

KDE is still based.

@r000t kicking out rms who is trash and a terrible leader, from a leadership position (which he is demonstrably terrible at) is in no way related to or congruent with the destruction of free software. in fact it is the opposite as his association with fsf is actively harming fsf right now which is why he had to resign in the first place.

Kicking out rms for being a terrible leader would be an excellent idea. However nowhere in the letter is that idea described. As him being a terrible leader is not the motive, one wonders what the motive is.

Mob
Personal Vendetta of OSI
Corporate Money
All of the Above

Oh, and btw, if “free” software can kick people out, maybe change the name to something more accurate, like “Curated” Software. “Walled Garden” Software. “Microsoft 3.0 Software” (Google being Microsoft 2.0).

@search_social free software refers to your freedoms to use and modify it. it does not refer to any right you have to participate in software-producing organizations. you're free to fork; there is no guarantee anyone else will accept your patches or even talk to you. you seem to be conflating the two.

indeed, FAANG wouldn't do free software at all if they couldn't ignore contributions at will. good luck patching out chromium spying upstream.

>it does not refer to any right you have to participate in software-producing organizations

Ah, a little Freudian Slip there. Naturally as I was talking about Free Software you should have been talking about “Free Software-Producing Organizations”. But it seems your hindbrain realized that OSI’s behavior indicates they are not in any way a “Free Software-Producing Organization”, and edited your statement before it came out your fingers to a “Software-Producing Organization”. A category that would include, e.g. Microsoft, Apple, Oracle, Amazon, etc.

And that’s fine, there’s nothing wrong with being a Microsoft clone if that’s what OSI wants. But Microsoft gets neither donations nor respect and OSI then deserves the same.
