if you ever wanna be reminded how many idiots there are in the world, live through a pandemic or have a really popular blog post on a technical topic, or both.

(tbh most people got it and understood it, and i'm surprised how little blatant idiocy was surfaced.)

You've heard of Falsehoods Programmers Believe About Time; now get ready for Falsehoods Terrans Believe About Sapients

@snow same reason i have a snoop dogg lyric in the footer, or why i use helvetica ultralight headers: i liked it and it's my website so i put it there

@pupperipherals @feoh kde plasma makes it perfectly trivial for you swap win (the apple key) and control. you'll have to relearn your terminal muscle memory for control-in-the-correct-place-c (stop program). take the opportunity to remap caps lock to control (easy on osx and linux both) and then this problem goes away.

it's annoying on pc/win that control-c is overloaded for both copy and SIGINT.

universal menu bars are overrated imo, but i think gnome does this.

when you look up a dictionary word on macOS, and it's not in the local dictionary, a big "search with google" button appears. clicking it always opens safari, not your default browser.

what is a reasonable monthly maximum to spend on personal cloud infrastructure? like, on the high end?

@nextcloud @paoloredaelli it would appear my spamming this reuters link fucking everywhere for six months straight has finally paid off

@sir @black6 if this is subtweeting me, i wholly agree. lifestyle businesses are awesome, i founded and run one myself. i always cheer on those who go this route.

if your unsubscribe link in your email results in a login form (and i'm not already unsubscribed when i see it), you are kindly invited to go fuck yourself with a chainsaw.

here's looking at you, meetup and twitter.

@sarvasana that's accounted for in the CSP, it doesn't load facebook anything. this csp violation doesn't happen on my machine, it only happened ~3100 times (the article received ~200000 impressions)

@berkes it won't exclude it from being shared on the fediverse. i would be extremely surprised if the links don't get posted even if preview generation fails. there is no problem here

@snow "not my circus, not my monkeys" is my answer to most things, but especially the trolley problem

@berkes also there isn't a requirement. you can post any link you like, including ones that *can't* handle 2k hits per minute. it'll just be down/slow for a few minutes until the link preview fetchers time out. there is no problem here.
