there is software that my tax dollars have paid to produce that is not free to me to download and is not released under open source licenses.

eternal november over here on the fediverse

@sneak I found this when looking for a way to do that: gist.github.com/hcmiya/e635b31

This sort of setup being well integrated and easy to switch on would be a great feature.

@abdulocracy yeah this needs to be a dead simple feature in mastodon, and maybe on by default

i think elon musk is generally doing a good job of running the companies he runs, and i think he will do a good job with twitter, as well. it's clear twitter was massively mismanaged and was slowly evaporating as a business due to sustained and terminal unprofitability.

@abdulocracy no other servers will be able to federate with you, however

wherein charlie stross wipes the frothing anticrypto statist spittle from his quivering jowl long enough to techsplain to me who jwz is

wandering.shop/@cstross/109417

@cstross @ncweaver @benjaminwittes uhh he literally cofounded Netscape, a company without the existence of which, firefox would not exist (and probably the dna lounge would be closed and turned into condos by now, jwz not having bought it on such a webless, AOL-keywords-only timeline).

it really bothers me a lot that remote blocks cause my own local mastodon to hide content that i have in my own local db (and perhaps delete it from my db?).

this would be like your email client honoring remote deletes. it's gaslighting!

@ncweaver is this just general anti-cryptocurrency halo bias? it's fine if it is but just identify it as such. "i hate pmarca because i hate crypto and he likes crypto" is a valid position and saves everyone time versus hiding behind smear words like fraud

@ncweaver this is only if you consider digital currencies to always be securities, which is not even the stance of the USG

really looking forward to tor hidden service AP instances (and support in mastodon/etc to work with them).

@ncweaver @benjaminwittes you know he is the reason netscape and the web are a thing, right?

i'm rate limited on my own mastodon server with no way to turn it off (TRUSTED_PROXY_IP) until i upgrade masto (which i can't do until my 400GB s3 media migration is done)
