@calcifer well, i have yet to see any data supporting or opposing the idea that trans-ness or queer-ness is or is not a personal decision.
if it is a personal decision, then it could be a political statement.
i think the general orthodoxy is that it's not a decision, that it's innate, but there are other personal decisions surrounding it (actions, mostly) that are choices.
i mean, all of the closeted gay priests are choosing *not* to make the political statement of coming out...
@chjara what's wrong with plastic going in landfills? it's a very good place for it.
@matthew_d_green agree, however note that because this is opt-in, most will not enable it, and everyone you iMessage with will be escrowing their device's iMessage sync keys ("Messages in iCloud") to Apple in their nightly non-e2ee device backups.
it's a good step, but it's not enough.
Happy Saturday everyone. If you’re an iPhone owner, today would be a great day to turn on Advanced Data Protection: this will end-to-end encrypt your iCloud backups so that only you (and people you choose) can see your photos and data. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212520
@filippo sorry to hear! i had brain fog for a month or two after recovering. for the future (though you will be immune for 9-ish months) note that you can get paxlovid in advance by lying to a teledoc about a positive test to get a prescription, then carrying it around with you until you test positive. that's what i'm doing; it works best if you take it within 8 hours of your first positive test.
@chjara why?
this is, in my view, the most important tweet on twitter to date:
