it's crazy that in one generation we went from most people's private communications in the usa not being monitored and logged by the government to very nearly 100% of people's private communications being monitored and logged by the government.
that's not enough though, so apple is putting in clientside scanning for the government, too.
for the record, i like both the comedic techniques of kernel-of-truth-but-mostly-exaggerated-so-still-funny (cf louie's "of course but maybe" bit) as well as the say-the-most-absurd-untrue-thing-possible-but-deliver-it-straight-for-a-beat thing (again cf louie's cinema classics jews/rape stuff). people tend to conflate the two but they are not the same. i suspect chappelle is trying for the former and ends up punching down; i haven't seen the bit yet though so this is speculation.
dave chappelle is complaining about cancel culture right as both of netflix's co-ceos explicitly confirmed that they are not cancelling him. (netflix is, i assume, his primary source of income.)
for the record, i think freedom of association is one of the best and most powerful tools for reshaping society and making it better, which is why i am pro-cancel-culture, pro-boycott, pro-vaccine-mandate, et c. you should be free to say "no, that sucks, i won't do business with you" at all times.
in the last 15 years, kraftwerk quietly re-produced (from scratch, pretty much) all of their same songs/records for their live show, and released much of it. they have the same names, lyrics, melodies, basslines, et c, but they’re complete reproductions, new from scratch. it’s amazing. does any other band do this?
