So following on from that research into why people aren't signing up to the fedi, yesterday I tried a little experiment to remove some of the biggest barriers and help people make the jump.
People complain the process of signing up to mastodon is complicated, and it's hard to find the Good Posts.
So I shared with people who wanted to join two things:
1. An invite link to the server I'm on, to stop them having to choose.
2. My follow list in csv format, to populate the tl with good posts.
@stavvers there should be better UI for sharing lists of users, and bulk following such lists.
Starting in just 25 minutes~!!

@verita84 because it's an app for a totally different purpose? lightroom is a tool for managing a library of hundreds of thousands of images.
@sabbatical nothing quite as obnoxious as an instance owner telling you what you're allowed to read on the internet
pretty sure i’m going to move to the qoto.org instance. the other instances i tested out (beige.party, indieweb.social, tilde.zone, and of course mastodon.social) all to some degree are “protecting me” from seeing some of the totally normal content of folks i'm already interacting with on other instances. qoto.org seems to show me everything i try to see, so far.
@luka last? or first?
last (in public performance) is when patrick russell dropped seawolf at no way back 2022 (or was it in 2019?) and it surprised the hell out of me despite knowing the record stone cold and hearing it a million times. it was a total dj-for-djs move.
@retr0id i am so confused then. why do you need .rip?
@retr0id then it sounds like they would still be .zip files.
@retr0id then just implement zip without the parts you don't like - if you're careful then existing decompressors should be able to work on your files
@icedquinn having seen some of the memes that those people post, i am gonna stick with "cursed" at the risk of being cancelled from my joke being misunderstood
